Why Therapy

Writer: Noah EastmanNoah Eastman

Let me share with you,

the most nourishing,

three-in-one,

mind, body, and heart wash,

called therapy.

It means attending to

the care of your soul.

It’s like a personalized

skin care routine.

It’s cleansing,

exfoliating,

toning,

moisturizing,

and the key

to a good night sleep.

Talking about your feelings is

basic hygiene.

However, you need

well-trained eyes,

and a spacious presence,

to treat those intergenerational cavities

deeeeep in the back.

Getting a root canal cause

you didn’t go to the dentist

isn’t fun.

Neither is constantly getting triggered

and fighting with your partner.

You can’t preform open

heart surgery on yourself,

and even if you could,

you just shouldn’t,

when there’s a trained expert

out there,

with years of experience.

A hemorrhaging history of

breakups,

cutting remarks,

and years of misattunement

doesn’t clot over night.

Don’t be heroic.

If you’re struggling with your mental health,

ask for help.

It’s okay to ask for help.

Actually,

the most edgy,

revolutionary,

countercultural,

respectable,

responsible,

radical,

traumagical,

bad-ass,

earth-loving thing

you can do

is to ask for help.

So seriously,

if you need help,

don’t wait until your bleeding out,

call someone,

like me,

Noah Eastman,

LMFT.
